The Math Behind It
The formula calculates the number of bricks by dividing the total wall area by the effective area of a single brick (which includes the brick face plus the mortar joint width). A waste factor is then applied.

The visual look and structural integrity of your wall are determined by the Brick Bond. While the calculator gives you the raw numbers, the pattern you choose affects the total count and cutting waste.
Running Bond
The most common and efficient pattern. Bricks are offset by half a length in each row. It offers maximum strength and the least amount of cutting waste (usually 5%).
Flemish Bond
A classic aesthetic pattern alternating "stretchers" (long side) and "headers" (short end). While beautiful, it requires more precision and results in 8-10% waste due to header cuts.
Stack Bond
Bricks aligned vertically and horizontally. Purely decorative. This bond has zero structural strength and requires internal steel reinforcement for safety.

- Weep Holes: In veneer walls, we leave small gaps in the bottom row of mortar. This allows moisture trapped behind the brick to escape, preventing rot in your home's wooden frame.
