Marketplace Fee Net Price Calculator

To hit a target payout, divide the target plus fixed costs by the share of revenue left after percentage fees and expected refunds. Adding fee percentages to the target price understates the required listing because the fees also apply to the added amount. This calculator separates platform, advertising, refund, and seller-funded shipping assumptions.

How the calculation works

The calculator applies this relationship to the inputs above. Keep every measurement in the unit shown.

required price = (target net + fixed fee + shipping subsidy) ÷ (1 − total percentage deductions)
Target net payout80 $
Platform percentage fee12.5 %
Advertising-attributed fee5 %
Expected refund leakage3 %
Fixed fee plus seller shipping9.5 $

Worked example

Use this example to check the calculator by hand before relying on a result.

1
Combine percentage deductions
Only 79.5% of price remains before fixed costs.
12.5% + 5% + 3% = 20.5%
2
Add fixed costs to target
The price must recover these deductions.
$80 + $9.50 = $89.50
3
Divide by retained share
Adding 20.5% directly would set the price too low.
$89.50 ÷ 79.5% = $112.58

Assumptions behind the result

  • Percentage fees apply to listing price as entered.
  • Refund leakage is a blended revenue share.
  • Fixed costs are per completed order.
  • Sales tax treatment is excluded.
  • Product cost and income tax are excluded.

Mistakes that change the answer

  • Adding fee percentages to target net.
  • Ignoring ad-attributed order fees.
  • Calling payout profit before product and labour cost.

Questions about marketplace fee net price calculator

Why divide instead of adding fees?
Because percentage fees also apply to the extra price added to cover them. Dividing solves for the price that leaves the desired remainder.
Should sales tax be included?
Marketplace tax collection and fee treatment vary. Model tax separately using the platform statement and local rules.
Is net payout the same as profit?
No. Profit still subtracts inventory, packaging, labour, overhead, returns not modeled, and taxes.
