Concrete: The 3 Golden Rules

1. The Ratio

1 : 2 : 3

The classic recipe: 1 part Cement, 2 parts Sand, and 3 parts Gravel. Too much sand weakens it; too much stone makes it hard to finish.

2. Water

Less is more. The #1 cause of weak concrete is too much water. The mix should be like thick oatmeal, not soup. If it's runny, it will crack.

3. The Cure

Concrete doesn't "dry," it cures chemically. Keep it wet for at least 7 days (mist it or cover with plastic) to reach full strength.
